Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday stated that seven individuals who were with popular singer Zubeen Garg during his final moments in Singapore have not yet responded to CID summons in connection with his death investigation.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said that only Rupkamal Kalita, who was on the yacht with Garg when the singer drowned in the sea on September 19, has responded to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and is expected to arrive in Guwahati on Tuesday for questioning.

“The remaining seven have not communicated about joining the investigation so far. We will keep the pressure on them to cooperate. Once one responds, others are likely to follow,” the Chief Minister added.

Sarma also clarified that Assam Police need not travel to Singapore for the inquiry. Under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), Singapore authorities will share all relevant evidence with India. “Our request has already been sent. No foreign country permits investigation by another nation’s police on its soil,” he said.
