Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held discussions with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla to review the ongoing flood and landslide situation caused by heavy rainfall in the northeastern region. The Prime Minister assured full support from the Central Government to assist relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on X that he updated the Prime Minister about the impact of continuous rainfall causing widespread flooding in Assam and adjoining areas. He also briefed him on the state government’s ongoing relief operations. The Prime Minister expressed concern and promised full central assistance.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang thanked the Prime Minister for his concern and support regarding the flood and landslide conditions in the state. He assured that the state administration remains committed to managing the situation and providing aid to affected people.

The flood situation in Assam remains critical, with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reporting 11 deaths — six due to floods and five from landslides. Over 5.15 lakh people across 22 districts have been affected.

In Sikkim, damage caused by persistent rainfall in Mangan district since May 28 has been officially declared a “disaster” under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. A landslide on Sunday evening struck an Indian Army camp at Chaten in Lachen, resulting in the deaths of three army personnel, with six others missing.

In Manipur, joint evacuation operations involving the Fire Service, Assam Rifles, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Indian Army are underway at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal. The campus has suffered severe waterlogging due to continuous heavy rainfall, affecting medical students and staff.
