Guwahati, March 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said Assam had endured a long period of instability, but the past decade has seen significant change as the BJP’s “double-engine government” worked to ensure peace in the state.

Addressing BJP booth-level workers in poll-bound Assam under the ‘Mera Booth, Sabse Mazboot Samvaad’ initiative, Modi noted that the government has signed 12 peace agreements with different organisations in the Northeast. He contrasted this with previous Congress governments, which he alleged “used to make agreements only on paper to create headlines and mislead people.”

“We have seen the era when Assam was burning in violence. Assam saw a long span of instability, but things have changed in the past decade. Today, we can see a new confidence as the BJP’s double-engine government has made every effort for peace,” Modi said.

He accused Congress of betraying the Bodo cause and failing to implement agreements with insurgent and student organisations, leaving youth vulnerable to unrest. Modi asserted that the BJP has worked to establish peace and secure the future of Assam’s youth through “honest efforts” in implementing agreements.

The Prime Minister also urged BJP workers to remind first-time voters of what he described as Congress’s “misrule” and cautioned them that “even the smallest mistake can push the state back.” He emphasized that peace is the foundation for development.

Modi further warned party workers about the circulation of AI-generated videos in Assam, asking them to remain vigilant.

The elections for Assam’s 126-member Assembly are scheduled for April 9. The BJP-led NDA has been in power in the state since 2016.
