Guwahati, Mar 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually inaugurated projects worth over ₹4,570 crore in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, amid heavy rains that forced the cancellation of his scheduled physical visit.
During a video conference from Guwahati, Modi flagged off three new trains: the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express, and Narangi–Agartala Express. He also laid the foundation stone for a Periodic Overhauling (POH) Workshop at Bashbari to enhance railway maintenance and operational efficiency in the region.
Modi participated in the ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for Assam Mala 3.0, a road development scheme planned to construct over 900 km of roads, aimed at improving inter-state links, national highway-rural road connectivity, and overall regional mobility.
Additionally, he conducted ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ for four flyovers and two bridges in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area, involving an investment of around ₹1,100 crore. Officials noted that these projects are expected to ease traffic congestion in Kokrajhar, support tourism, and improve transport for agriculture, healthcare, and rural connectivity.
The initiatives come ahead of the Assam assembly elections scheduled for April, marking a key phase in the state’s infrastructure development plans.
