Guwahati, Feb 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on Saturday for a day-long tour, inaugurating major infrastructure projects and addressing BJP booth-level workers.
Modi will arrive at Chabua airfield in Dibrugarh at 9:50 am and board an Indian Air Force C-130 to inaugurate the state’s first highway-based Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at Moran. The Rs 100 crore, 4.2-km strip will feature a 20-minute aerial display of fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters before the Prime Minister flies to Guwahati.
In Guwahati, he will inaugurate the Rs 3,000 crore Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a six-lane bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati. The bridge aims to improve connectivity, enhance seismic safety, and accelerate growth in the State Capital Region.
From Lachit Ghat, Modi will virtually launch the temporary campus of IIM-Guwahati at Bongora and an AI-enabled hyperscale National Data Centre at Amingaon. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the IIM campus as a milestone, positioning Assam among the few states with premier institutions like IIT, IIM, and AIIMS. The data centre will strengthen e-governance under a ‘Cloud First’ policy.
He will also flag off 100 electric vehicles under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme for Guwahati and other cities. The visit will conclude with a public meeting for BJP workers before Modi departs for Delhi.
Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota and DGP Harmeet Singh reviewed preparations covering the ELF, bridge, IIM campus, data centre, and e-buses, focusing on security, crowd management, traffic, and inter-agency coordination to ensure smooth execution of the events.
