Guwahati, Mar 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate projects worth ₹23,550 crore in Silchar today, concluding his two-day visit to Assam ahead of the state assembly elections.

After staying overnight in Guwahati, Modi will travel to Silchar this morning for the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of the ₹22,860 crore Shillong-Silchar Corridor. The 166-km four-lane greenfield high-speed expressway, the first access-controlled corridor in the Northeast, is expected to reduce travel time between Guwahati and Silchar from 8.5 hours to around five hours, enhancing connectivity and promoting economic activity between Assam and Meghalaya.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation for an elevated corridor on NH-306 (Phase I), extending from Trunk Road near Capital Point to Rangirkhari Point in Silchar. The project aims to ease traffic congestion on one of the city’s busiest routes and improve connectivity with Mizoram, Tripura, and Manipur.

In addition, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the College of Agriculture at Patharkandi in Karimganj district.

On Friday, the Prime Minister inaugurated projects worth ₹24,250 crore in Guwahati. After his Silchar engagements, he will proceed to Kolkata. Both Assam and West Bengal are scheduled to hold assembly elections in April.
