Nazira, April 1: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state government during an election rally in Nazira, where she campaigned for Leader of the Opposition and Congress candidate Debabrata Saikia.
Gandhi alleged that Assam’s resources were being exploited by a single family and claimed that state assets, including mines and land, were being transferred to industrialists. She also raised concerns over past scams, citing the Sarada, Smart City, and NC Hills cases.
Speaking on broader governance issues, Gandhi criticized the BJP-led government’s handling of tea garden workers’ wages, noting that promised increases have not been implemented. She highlighted ongoing demands for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status from several tribal communities and alleged that women were pressured to attend party rallies under threat of losing benefits from programs such as the Orunodoi poverty alleviation scheme.
Gandhi also made remarks regarding the central government, describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “influenced by the US” and associating Sarma closely with him.
