Guwahati, April 2: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during an election rally in Bokajan, calling him the “most corrupt CM in India” and alleging that Sarma, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is running a “land ATM” in the state to benefit corporates.

Gandhi claimed that nearly 98,400 bighas of land had been handed over to three major corporate houses after being “snatched from the people.” He vowed that a Congress government would take strict action against Sarma and his family, whom he accused of being “No. 1 in corruption.”

The Congress leader also paid tribute to celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore last year, promising that his party would deliver justice for Garg’s death within 100 days of coming to power. “He reflected the spirit of Assam’s multi-cultural, multi-religious tradition,” Gandhi said.

Highlighting Congress’s commitment to decentralisation, Gandhi pledged to fully implement Article 244(A) of the Constitution, ensuring that Karbi Anglong and Sixth Schedule areas are governed locally rather than from Guwahati or Delhi.

He further criticised the India-US trade deal, alleging it disadvantaged India by lowering taxes on American goods, and controversially claimed that former US President Donald Trump “controls Narendra Modi due to the Epstein files.”

The rally was held in support of Congress candidate Raton Engti for the Bokajan constituency as the party intensifies its campaign in Assam.
