Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will visit Guwahati on Friday to pay tribute to Assam’s music legend Zubeen Garg, who passed away last month. His visit will include a stop at the cremation site in Kamarkuchi, Sonapur, followed by a meeting with Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, at their residence in Kahilipara.
Bedabrata Bora, chairperson of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s media department, said the visit is solely to console the bereaved family and offer respects. “Rahul ji will visit the cremation site and meet Garima Saikia Garg on Friday. He has no other programmes during the visit,” Bora stated.
The visit comes amid growing public calls for “Justice for Zubeen” across the state. Youth Congress workers have continued protests demanding accountability for the singer’s death, and the Assam PCC has directed district committees to hold memorial meetings on October 19 to mark one month since Zubeen Garg’s passing.
