Dispur, Feb 18: The Election Commission of India has announced that biennial elections to three seats of the Rajya Sabha from Assam will be held on March 16, as the terms of the sitting members are set to expire in April.
The three seats are among 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states that are falling vacant on April 2 and April 9. The notification for the elections will be issued on February 26.
Polling will take place on March 16 between 9 am and 4 pm, in accordance with established procedure. The counting of votes will begin at 5 pm on the same day.
The biennial elections are conducted to fill vacancies arising from the completion of six-year terms of members.
