Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg will submit its chargesheet before December 17 this year.
Addressing the media, Sarma said he has directed the SIT to ensure timely filing of the chargesheet and stated that the team has made significant progress in the investigation. “The SIT will submit the chargesheet before the court on December 17. I have already instructed that it must be done within this deadline. The SIT has made substantial progress and is absolutely confident. They assured me that they will deliver justice to Zubeen Garg,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister further informed that Singapore authorities have officially sent the final post-mortem and toxicology reports related to Zubeen Garg’s death to the Assam government through the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). “People are seeking justice for Zubeen Garg and we will provide it—100 percent. The SIT’s report will reveal significant facts and introduce many unknown details to the public,” he added.
Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore on September 19 following an alleged drowning incident while attending the Northeast India Festival. His death prompted widespread public demand for a detailed investigation and transparent justice process.
In a separate response to media queries on cross-border issues, Sarma alleged that Congress and certain groups identified as “Miyas” are attempting to undermine Assam’s sovereignty and align the state with Bangladesh, urging the people of Assam to remain alert and united.
