Guwahati, Feb 10: The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to consider a plea filed by Left leaders seeking action against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over a viral video allegedly showing him aiming a rifle at members of a specific community.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and N V Anjaria, heard submissions from lawyer Nizam Pasha, representing CPI and CPI(M) leaders. Pasha urged urgent intervention, stating that complaints had been filed but no FIR had been registered.

The Chief Justice remarked, “The problem is, as soon as elections come, part of the election is fought in the Supreme Court. That is the problem. We will find out and will give a date.”

The video, originally shared by the Assam BJP’s official X handle on February 7, showed Sarma allegedly taking aim at two individuals—one wearing a skull cap and another with a beard. The post drew widespread criticism for allegedly inciting violence and communal tension, leading the BJP to delete the video.
