Itanagar, Nov 15: A member of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) surrendered to security forces in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence and technical inputs regarding insurgent movements, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Assam and Arunachal Pradesh Police, conducted a joint operation in the area. This operation resulted in the voluntary surrender of 23-year-old self-styled private Kamal Akhun, also known as Vikas Mohanta, an active ULFA member.
During the surrender, Akhun handed over a 7.65 mm pistol along with one magazine and six live rounds. The surrendered militant, along with the recovered weapon and ammunition, was handed over to the police for legal formalities and rehabilitation in line with established norms.
Officials highlighted that the operation reflects strong coordination between Assam Rifles and state police forces and underscores ongoing efforts to encourage insurgents to return to the mainstream.
