Veteran Assamese singer, lyricist, and composer Syed Sadulla passed away on Thursday morning at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at the age of 77.
Sadulla, who had been suffering from a severe blood disorder, was admitted to GMCH on Tuesday and remained in critical condition until his demise around 10:30 a.m. Doctors later confirmed that he had been battling Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL).
Born in Dibrugarh on February 1, 1948, Sadulla began his career as a radio presenter at All India Radio, Dibrugarh, before emerging as one of Assam’s most cherished musical personalities. Over the decades, his songs and compositions made a lasting impact on Assamese music and culture, earning him widespread admiration.
The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) expressed condolences on his passing. Party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi described him as a beloved voice of Akashvani Dibrugarh and a true admirer of Assam’s land and people, sentiments reflected in his works.
Syed Sadulla’s demise marks the end of a significant chapter in Assam’s musical journey, though his contributions will continue to resonate with generations to come.
