Guwahati, Mar 19: Former Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi on Thursday expressed gratitude to the BJP for nominating him from the Dispur constituency in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. Bordoloi, who joined the BJP from Congress just a day earlier, said he would engage with voters with humility and work closely with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on developmental initiatives.
In an interview with ANI, Bordoloi said he sought a platform to contribute meaningfully. “I did not ask for anything except a platform to play a more meaningful role. I’ve served as MLA four times and minister for 15 years,” he stated. Referring to his past collaboration with Sarma, he added, “We were colleagues who drove Assam’s progress, pulling it out of insurgency. I’m eager to work with him again for the state’s growth.”
On connecting with Dispur voters, Bordoloi said, “It’s up to the people to place their faith in me, but I’ll go to them with a lot of humility as a BJP candidate.” He also outlined his vision for Assam, focusing on job creation, employment generation, and raising living standards.
The BJP’s first list of 88 candidates for the 126-seat Assam Assembly elections includes Bordoloi from Dispur and former Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Borah. Chief Minister Sarma will contest from his Jalukbari seat. The elections are scheduled for April 9 in a single phase, with results to be declared on May 4, as announced by the Election Commission of India.
