The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam has arrested co-musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and performer Amritprava Mahanta in connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg. The arrests were made on Thursday after questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta, bringing the total number of people held in the case to four.
On Wednesday, the CID had taken into custody North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma. Both were remanded to 14 days in police custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup (Metro).
Investigators have added a murder charge under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, citing sections 61(2), 105, and 106(1). The investigation is ongoing on the 13th day since Garg’s death, which occurred while he was swimming in Singapore.
Garg’s mortal remains were flown to Delhi and later brought to Guwahati on September 21. On September 27, actress Nishita Goswami and Shekhar Jyoti Goswami appeared before the CID for questioning in the ongoing inquiry.
