In the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg, a Guwahati court on Friday sent co-musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta to 14 days’ police custody. The duo was arrested late Thursday by the Assam Police Crime Investigation Department (CID) following multiple rounds of questioning.
With these arrests, the total number of individuals taken into custody in connection with the case has risen to four. Earlier, on Wednesday, the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) had arrested Shyamkanu Mahanta, organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, and Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, who are also in 14-day custody.
Authorities have added murder charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act to the ongoing investigation. Special DGP and SIT chief Munna Prasad Gupta stated that the arrests followed detailed interrogation sessions, and investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has shared Garg’s autopsy report and preliminary findings with the Indian High Commission in Singapore upon request.
Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, appealed for calm, expressing confidence in the legal process and stating her belief that the investigation will uncover the truth and ensure justice.
The 52-year-old singer passed away on September 19 in Singapore, initially reported as a drowning accident. His body was transported back to India via Delhi and reached Guwahati on Sunday.
