Agartala, November 4, 2025: A Bangladeshi youth identified as Faruk from Comilla district was booked by local residents in the early hours of Tuesday morning while allegedly attempting to burglarize a house in the Kulubari area under Sonamura police station.

Faruk, who has reportedly been living illegally in India for the past 12 years, had settled locally after marrying an Indian woman and now has three children. Despite claiming to be a ragpicker by profession, residents allege he has long been involved in substance abuse and theft.

During interrogation, Faruk confessed to the attempted burglary and further revealed that two individuals Yasin Mia and Mihir Mia are involved in selling narcotics in Sonamura. According to local sources, several youths have become entangled in criminal activities such as theft and robbery to fund their drug habits.

Following the incident, residents alerted Sonamura police, who took Faruk into custody. Authorities have also initiated an investigation into his illegal stay in India and possible links to other criminal networks.
