Agartala, December 16, 2025: ARD, Fisheries and SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das on Monday cautioned the youth of Tripura against what he described as the adverse impact of Left-leaning ideology, asserting that it posed a threat to the country’s long-preserved social and cultural values.

Addressing students during a freshers’ welcome programme at Ambedkar College in Fatikroy, Das alleged that efforts were underway to weaken India’s indigenous culture through the imposition of foreign ideologies. He appealed to the younger generation to remain vigilant, reject such influences and contribute to strengthening the nation.

The minister also referred to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case, claiming that Left groups had opposed the Supreme Court’s decision awarding capital punishment to the prime accused. He urged students to resist what he termed “anti-national” narratives, stating that safeguarding national interests was essential for the country’s future.

Highlighting the importance of value-based education, Das said academic degrees alone were insufficient to build an ideal society. He stressed that education must promote moral integrity, ethical conduct and a sense of responsibility towards society.

Emphasizing self-reliance, the minister underlined the need for skill development alongside formal education to ensure sustainable livelihoods for students. He encouraged them to prepare seriously for competitive examinations and focus on enhancing employable skills.

Criticizing the previous Left Front government in Tripura, Das alleged that recruitment during that period lacked transparency and was influenced by nepotism. He claimed that the current central and state governments had introduced a transparent, merit-based recruitment system, where employment opportunities were determined solely through competitive examinations.

The programme was attended by Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, acting principal of the college Dr Subrata Sharma, welcome committee president Dipshikha Nag, secretary Kamal Das and other dignitaries. Senior students and guests welcomed the newly admitted students with floral greetings.
