A long-cherished dream of improved connectivity in Mizoram came true on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 51-kilometre Bairabi–Sairang railway line. Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) played a key role in the project by supplying nearly 15,000 tonnes of steel.
SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant contributed around 10,000 tonnes of high-grade R-260 prime rail, while the remaining 5,000 tonnes of plates, TMT bars, and structural steel were supplied by SAIL plants in Bokaro, Rourkela, Durgapur, and Burnpur.
The railway line is expected to enhance connectivity across Mizoram’s hilly terrain, reduce travel time, and open new opportunities for trade and economic growth in the state. “This project reflects India’s commitment to improving connectivity in every corner of the country. We are proud that our steel has powered this important milestone for the Northeast,” SAIL said in a statement.
