In a dramatic political development, BJP MLA Th. Shyamkumar warned that he and his colleagues would resign if the party’s central leadership fails to grant them an appointment and address their demands.

Speaking to reporters at Imphal Airport before leaving for New Delhi, Shyamkumar said, “If the central leadership does not give us an appointment, there is no need to remain as BJP MLAs — resignation will be the only option.”

The statement comes amid growing pressure from Manipur BJP legislators to form a new government in the state, which has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025, following months of ethnic violence.

A delegation of BJP MLAs, led by former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, is already in Delhi to push for early government formation. The team includes H. Dingo, T. Robindro, S. Ranjan, Govindas Konthoujam, and Hill Areas Committee Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei.

Joining the group today are BJP MLAs Yumnam Khemchand, U. Deben, and Th. Shyamkumar, signaling an intensified effort to engage the party’s central leadership.

Before his departure on Sunday, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said the delegation plans to meet top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and possibly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss Manipur’s political deadlock and the plight of internally displaced persons.

Manipur Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh is also expected to depart for Delhi soon.

With the state assembly under suspended animation but not dissolved, BJP legislators believe there remains a window to restore a democratically elected government. Their latest move underscores mounting urgency within the party to re-establish governance, stabilize Manipur, and press the central leadership for a decisive response.
