Agartala, April 20, 2026: Rajib Bhattacharjee, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Tripura Pradesh, on Monday visited Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas to meet party workers who have allegedly fled their homes following post-election violence across the state.

Upon arrival, Bhattacharjee interacted with the displaced workers taking shelter at the facility and enquired about their condition. According to party sources, several workers and supporters from different parts of the state have taken refuge there after alleged attacks by groups backed by Tipra Motha.

However, the visit witnessed a brief spell of tension inside the premises, as a section of the sheltered workers voiced dissatisfaction over the prevailing situation. During the commotion, some agitated individuals reportedly confronted mediapersons, leading to a short-lived disruption.

The BJP state chief was accompanied by Kalyani Roy, Chief Whip of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, party general secretary Bipin Debbarma, and other senior leaders. The delegation listened to grievances and assured full support to those affected.

Addressing the media, Bhattacharjee condemned the incidents of violence, alleging that despite advocating “Thansa” (unity), supporters of Tipra Motha were involved in attacks on members of the tribal community. He questioned the party’s commitment to tribal welfare.

He claimed that over a hundred BJP workers have been displaced due to threats and intimidation. He further stated that while the Chief Minister remains engaged in election campaigning in West Bengal, the situation in Tripura is being closely monitored. Ministers Tinku Roy and Bikash Debbarma are visiting affected areas, and efforts are underway in coordination with the administration to restore normalcy.

On administrative action, Bhattacharjee said timely intervention by security forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force and state police, helped prevent major casualties and ensured safe evacuation of victims. He added that several arrests have been made, though he expressed concern over some accused individuals allegedly participating in road blockade protests.

Reiterating the party’s stance, he said the government’s priority is to restore peace and ensure the safe return of displaced workers. Meanwhile, those taking shelter at the facility alleged that despite the scale of violence following the election results, adequate steps have not been taken to curb unrest in the hill areas.
