Agartala, January 05, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and is poised to return to power in the 2028 state assembly elections. He emphasized the party’s commitment to the holistic development of tribal communities and dismissed ongoing agitations over script issues as unnecessary.
Speaking at a mega joining rally organized by the BJP in Barmura, Dr. Saha welcomed 495 voters from 181 families into the party fold. He reiterated that the tribal population of the state has realized that only the BJP can ensure genuine development in Tripura. “The BJP-led government will do everything necessary for the upliftment of the tribal communities,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister criticized opposition attempts to disrupt the event, alleging that some groups had instigated women to protest over water issues to derail the rally. “Such tactics are not new. But noble causes cannot be achieved through deceit,” he remarked.
Dr. Saha also took a firm stance on the ongoing movement regarding the adoption of a separate script for tribal languages. “There is no need to agitate over the script. Create your own script if necessary,” he urged. He pointed to the Chakma community as an example, stating, “If they can develop their own script, why can’t others? There are many educated individuals among the tribal communities who can take this initiative.”
Highlighting the development strides under the BJP government, the Chief Minister said, “Today, tribal women are increasingly supporting the BJP. They have recognized and trusted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.” He credited the Prime Minister’s ‘HIRA’ model—focusing on Highways, Internet, Railways, and Airways—for the rapid infrastructure growth in the state.
Dr. Saha also noted that Tripura now ranks second in the Northeast in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income. “We have received numerous awards across sectors. Our goal is to build a new Tripura, and that is possible only when both tribal and non-tribal communities place their trust in the BJP,” he added.
Referring to the concept of ‘Thansa’—symbolizing unity—Dr. Saha linked it to the national slogan “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas.” He also condemned the previous Left Front regime, accusing the CPM of fostering violence and giving rise to extremist groups like the ATTF and NLFT. “Many lives were lost during their rule. The situation in the Northeast was dire. But today, peace prevails, thanks to Prime Minister Modi,” he said.
The event was attended by several senior BJP leaders, including state party president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, general secretary Bipin Debbarma, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy, MLAs Pinaki Das Chowdhury and Sanjib Reang, and other district and mandal-level tribal leaders.
