Agartala, June 26, 2025: Tripura’s Papon Sutradhar, a visually impaired candidate from Bijoyanagar under the Mohanpur assembly constituency has topped the Tripura TET-2 (Teacher Eligibility Test) examination scoring an impressive 121 out of 150 marks equivalent to 81%, the highest in the state.
Papon, who is completely blind appeared for the exam alongside 32,286 candidates and emerged as the top scorer in the TET-2 (Paper-II A) category creating a historic precedent for Divyangjan candidates in the state.
On Wednesday, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath visited Papon’s residence to personally congratulate him and his family. Describing the achievement as “extraordinary,” Nath said, “Papon’s result is not just a personal victory but a symbol of what resilience and determination can accomplish. Despite his visual impairment, he has surpassed thousands with sheer dedication.”
Addressing reporters during the visit, Minister Nath highlighted the improved performance in this year’s TET exams. “The pass percentage in TET Paper 1 stands at 5.56%, while Paper 2 recorded a 4.92% success rate,” he said. “This marks a significant rise from earlier figures of 1.4% and 0.86% respectively. It reflects the steady improvement in the state’s education system since the BJP government came to power.”
Papon, who holds an MA in History from IGNOU is currently pursuing an M.Ed. He first entered the Narsingarh Blind School in 2008 with help from then-MLA Ratan Lal Nath, and has since overcome numerous challenges. He had previously cleared TET-1 in 2022, but his result was invalidated due to a Supreme Court ruling.
Minister Nath also arranged a phone conversation between Papon and Tripura Teachers’ Recruitment Board Chairman Dr. Pratyush Ranjan Deb, who congratulated him and assured full support in his future endeavors.
“We are proud of Papon. His determination, hard work, and success will inspire countless others across the state and country,” said Nath.
Speaking to the media, Papon expressed gratitude for the support he received over the years and said he is now focused on building a meaningful career in education. “I was disappointed when my TET-1 result got cancelled, but I promised myself I would not give up. This result is my answer,” he said.
Papon’s achievement is being celebrated across Tripura as a milestone in inclusive education and a powerful reminder of the potential of the human spirit.
