Agartala, March 11, 2026: The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended a Bangladeshi youth while he was allegedly attempting to enter India illegally through the Jaipur border area in Tripura. The arrested individual was later handed over to the West Agartala Police Station for further legal action.
According to BSF sources, jawans of the 42nd Battalion deployed in the Lankamura area were conducting routine border patrol when they noticed two individuals trying to cross the international border clandestinely. Acting swiftly, the security personnel chased them and managed to apprehend one of the suspects, while the other reportedly managed to flee the spot.
The arrested youth has been identified as Simon Mia, a resident of Brahmanbaria District in Bangladesh.
Following the arrest, the BSF handed him over to the West Agartala police for further investigation. The officer-in-charge of the police station confirmed that the youth is currently being interrogated. “We are questioning him to ascertain the motive behind his illegal entry and the route he used to cross the border,” the officer said.
Police officials also informed that the accused will be produced before a local court, and a request for police remand will be sought to facilitate further interrogation.
The incident has once again brought attention to the issue of illegal infiltration along the Tripura–Bangladesh border. Authorities, however, stated that strict surveillance and intensified patrolling are being maintained along the border areas to prevent such incidents in the future.
