Shillong, May 23: Troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya, in separate operations, seized contraband items worth a total of ₹28.7 lakh near the India-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills and South West Garo Hills districts.
Based on reliable intelligence, a joint Mobile Check Post (MCP) operation by the 193 Battalion BSF Meghalaya and Customs officials led to the seizure of items worth ₹4.7 lakh near the international border in East Khasi Hills district. The goods were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
In another operation on the same day, alert personnel of the 50 Battalion BSF Meghalaya recovered contraband items valued at over ₹24 lakh near the international border in South West Garo Hills district. These items were also meant to be smuggled into Bangladesh.
The BSF continues to maintain strict vigilance to prevent cross-border smuggling in the region.
