A three-member central delegation arrived at Santirbazar District Hospital on Monday to assess its eligibility for national-level assistance under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS). The visit marks a significant step forward for the hospital, which has been making steady progress in enhancing healthcare delivery through the dedicated efforts of its medical staff.
Doctors and healthcare personnel at the district hospital have been working tirelessly, ensuring round-the-clock medical services for patients. Their commitment has not only improved patient care but has also contributed to the overall development of the institution. As a result, the hospital is now being considered for national-level support, raising hopes among local residents for further improvements in infrastructure and services.
The visiting delegation—comprising Sunit Srivastava, Renuka Shinde, and Ankita Nath—will conduct a comprehensive three-day inspection. The team was formally welcomed upon arrival and briefed on various aspects of the hospital’s infrastructure and operations. Following the initial discussions, the delegation inspected multiple sections of the hospital premises, both indoors and outdoors.

However, the inspection was marred by controversy after allegations surfaced against Dr. Rahul Das, a Medical Officer from Rupaichhari Primary Health Centre under Sabroom subdivision. He reportedly obstructed journalists attempting to cover the event and allegedly behaved inappropriately with members of the media. Sources claim that his actions created a chaotic atmosphere during the visit.
Further allegations have also been raised against Dr. Das regarding the misappropriation of funds from projects at the Rupaichhari Health Centre. His conduct on the day has drawn widespread criticism, with many questioning his presence during such a crucial inspection. There are also public speculations suggesting that he attempted to undermine the hospital’s reputation during the NQAS team’s visit.
Despite the disruptions, the inspection proceeded in the presence of several key officials, including South District Sabhadhipati Deepak Datta, Santirbazar MLA Pramod Reang, Municipal Council Chairperson Swapna Baidya, Vice-Chairperson Satyabrata Saha, Medical Officer-in-Charge Lufang Mog, and South District Chief Medical Officer J.M. Das.
The arrival of the NQAS team has generated considerable enthusiasm among local residents, who are optimistic about the hospital securing national recognition and enhanced support. The outcome of the inspection is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future development of South Tripura District Hospital.
