Agartala, August 13, 2025: The central government has sanctioned additional funds for the expedited completion of the lighthouse project near the Akhaura border in Tripura, following persistent efforts by MP Biplab Kumar Deb. Officials confirmed that construction work, which had stalled for months, will resume shortly.
On July 24 in New Delhi, Union Minister for Housing, Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, held a meeting to address the key hurdles hindering the project. The discussions, attended by Deb, highlighted the urgent need to restart work on the state’s ambitious housing initiative.
The project, one of only six lighthouse projects in India and the first in the North Eastern region, was launched during Deb’s tenure as Chief Minister. It was designed to accommodate 1,000 families using advanced construction technology. While initial progress was swift, work later slowed due to land-related and other logistical challenges, preventing completion within the planned timeframe.
Deb met Khattar in Delhi earlier this week, reiterating the importance of the project for Tripura’s housing needs and urging the allocation of extra funds to remove existing bottlenecks. With the Centre’s approval now in place, officials expect construction to resume at full pace to ensure early completion.
