Agartala, December 2, 2025: Tripura’s healthcare and medical education landscape received a significant boost as the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, approved an outlay of Rs 140 crore for setting up an Ayurveda Medical College and a Homoeopathy Medical College in the state.

Following the approval, a high-level review meeting was held to chalk out a detailed roadmap for establishing the two institutions. Senior officials discussed infrastructure development, availability of land and buildings, recruitment of faculty, and completion of statutory and regulatory requirements to ensure that academic activities can begin from the next academic session as planned.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha announced the development and expressed his gratitude to the central leadership for extending support to Tripura in strengthening its healthcare and medical education sectors. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Prataprao Yadav for their continued backing of initiatives aimed at improving health services and education in the state.

The proposed colleges are expected to open new opportunities for students interested in traditional systems of medicine and contribute to the promotion of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy across the region. Officials said the new institutions will also help address the growing need for trained medical professionals and strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Tripura.

Once operational, the colleges are likely to play a key role in enhancing access to quality education in traditional medicine while supporting the state’s broader efforts to improve public health and expand medical facilities.
