Agartala, August 08, 2025: Aiming to uplift the tribal communities of Tripura, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a new component under the existing Special Development Package for the state. The initiative worth ₹250 crore is in line with the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed between the Government of India, Government of Tripura and the erstwhile militant groups National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha hailed the decision, calling it “a milestone in Tripura’s journey towards inclusive growth and lasting peace.” He said, “This package will directly address the socio-economic challenges of our vulnerable and marginalised tribal brothers and sisters, many of whom have not adequately benefited from previous government schemes.”

The scheme focuses on improving the living standards of underprivileged communities through expanded access to health services, quality education, skill development, and livelihood generation. CM Saha noted, “The special package will open doors for employment, especially for our youth and women, and encourage sustainable income-generating activities.”

Tourism is also expected to see a boost, with the package aiming to draw visitors from across the country to Tripura. “Increased tourist inflow will create fresh avenues for jobs and entrepreneurship, further strengthening our state’s economy and ensuring stability in the North Eastern region,” Dr. Saha added.

Calling the announcement a testament to the Centre’s commitment to the North East, the Chief Minister said, “I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji for this historic initiative. It reflects the government’s unwavering resolve to bring peace, prosperity, and dignity to every citizen of Tripura.”
