Agartala, May 27, 2025: Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday announced that the Central government is expected to take initiatives to revive the long-defunct airport at Kailashahar in Unakoti District.
The minister revealed that officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had carried out a feasibility inspection of the airport on Monday. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government has been relentlessly working towards improving Tripura’s communication infrastructure,” Chowdhury stated.
Highlighting recent progress, he said, “Since the BJP came to power, there has been notable development in the road, highway, and air connectivity sectors. The inspection by AAI officials is a significant step forward in our push for restoring operations at Kailashahar airport.”
Chowdhury emphasized his consistent efforts, saying, “I have personally met and written to both former and present Union Civil Aviation Ministers, advocating for the airport’s revival. I have strongly requested the commencement of flight services from Kailashahar.”
He also informed that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has taken a keen interest in the matter and has already raised it with the Centre.
“Discussions on this issue have repeatedly surfaced in the State Assembly, including by opposition members. As assured, an AAI inspection was completed ahead of the anticipated visit of Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. I remain optimistic that the Centre will take timely and appropriate action,” the minister added.
