Agartala, August 26, 2025: The Centre has released more than ₹284 crore to rural local bodies in three states under the 15th Finance Commission (XV-FC) Untied Grants for the financial year 2025–26.
According to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Mizoram received ₹14.27 crore for 827 eligible village councils under the 2023–24 grants. Odisha was allocated the largest share with ₹240.81 crore for 6,085 Gram Panchayats and 63 Block Panchayats. Tripura received ₹29.75 crore covering 606 Gram Panchayats, 35 Block Panchayats, eight Zilla Parishads, 587 Village Committees and 40 Block Advisory Committees.
The funds, released on the recommendation of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Ministry of Jal Shakti, are disbursed in two instalments each year. While untied grants are meant to address location-specific developmental needs, tied grants focus on essential services such as sanitation, waste management, faecal sludge treatment, drinking water supply, rainwater harvesting and water recycling.
Earlier in March, the Centre had released ₹436 crore as the second instalment of XV-FC grants for rural local bodies in Karnataka and Tripura for FY 2024–25, aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and boosting rural transformation.
