Agartala, January 28, 2026: In a decisive move against child labour, the Child Rights Protection Commission and the West District Labour Department jointly conducted raids across several commercial areas in Agartala on Wednesday. The operation targeted shops along Laxmi Narayan Bari Road, GB Bazaar, and Surya Chowmuhani following complaints of children being employed illegally.
During the raid, three minors were rescued from GB Bazaar and immediately shifted to a safe location. Officials confirmed that their long-term protection and rehabilitation measures are currently under review. Another child was rescued from a different site during the wider operation.
Authorities noted that the crackdown is part of a nationwide campaign against child labour, which began on January 26 and will continue until March 31. In Tripura, the initiative includes a six-day coordinated drive across the state to identify workplaces employing children and ensure their rescue.
Officials further stated that strict legal action will be taken against employers found guilty of engaging children in labour, in accordance with labour laws. The campaign aims to safeguard children’s right to education and secure their future, with authorities emphasizing that no compromise will be made on this issue.
