Shillong, May 12: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has advocated for the reallocation of CUET (UG) examination centres to locations within the state, following complaints from students regarding the assignment of centres outside Meghalaya. Sangma met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on Sunday to discuss the issue.

In a letter to the Union Minister, Sangma requested the National Testing Agency (NTA) to reconsider the centre allocations and ensure that students who opted for Meghalaya centres, especially in Shillong, are not assigned to distant locations like Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Kolkata. He also suggested the possibility of deferring the examination, scheduled for May 13, until sufficient infrastructure and accessible centres are available within the state.

The Chief Minister highlighted the financial burden that such allocations have imposed on students, particularly those from lower-income backgrounds, stressing that many now face high travel and accommodation costs, disrupting their academic preparations.
