The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has strongly condemned the killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh, terming it a brutal incident and alleging failure of the Central government to control armed militant groups in violence-hit Manipur.

Addressing media persons, COCOMI Convenor Y.K. Dhiren said the killing occurred at a time when civil society organisations and the public were making sustained efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate and indicative of a deteriorating security situation.

Dhiren pointed out that despite the deployment of over 60,000 security personnel in Manipur, armed militants continued to operate freely, leading to loss of civilian lives. He alleged that militants were using advanced weapons while authorities failed to take firm and effective action.

Questioning the effectiveness of central and paramilitary forces, COCOMI said the purpose of such large-scale deployment must be reviewed if civilians could not be protected. The organisation reiterated its demand for immediate and decisive intervention by the Government of India to restore law and order, fix accountability, and prevent further civilian casualties in Manipur.
