Imphal, Dec 4: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an umbrella group of Meitei civil society organizations, has called on the central government to take action to dismantle militant camps in Manipur. The group also requested the government to secure the Indo-Myanmar border and conduct transparent investigations into allegations involving security forces and Kuki armed groups.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, COCOMI highlighted the need for a comprehensive strategy to address issues such as infiltration, illegal poppy cultivation, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking in the region. The group also called for efforts to restore the demographic balance in the state.

The ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei community in Imphal valley and the Kuki community in the hill districts has been attributed by authorities to infiltration from Myanmar. Since the violence began in May 2023, over 250 people have died, and thousands have been displaced. The situation remains tense as efforts to restore peace continue.
