Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has criticized the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur on September 13, alleging that the trip reflects “callousness and insensitivity” towards the people of the state.

In a statement, Ramesh said the Prime Minister is expected to spend only about three hours in Manipur, questioning what could be achieved in such a short duration. He termed the visit “a non-visit,” pointing out that the people have been waiting for the Prime Minister for 29 “long and agonising months.”

He further remarked that the enthusiasm shown by the Prime Minister’s supporters cannot hide the fact that the brief stopover is “an insult to the people of Manipur.”
