Agartala, April 07, 2026: Tripura Congress MLA Birajit Sinha has written to Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha expressing deep concern over a series of attacks, harassment, and fatalities involving delivery workers in Tripura, urging immediate government intervention to ensure their safety and legal protection.

In his letter to the Chief Minister, Sinha said recent incidents—including the death of a young delivery worker in Dharmanagar, an attack on another worker in Narayanpur, and the fatal beating of a delivery worker in Agartala—have deeply disturbed the state and created fear among young workers engaged in delivery services.

He said many families have been left grief-stricken by these repeated incidents, while delivery workers continue to perform their duties daily in densely populated areas under pressure and risk.

The MLA observed that when such incidents occur during working hours, they cannot be treated merely as accidents but raise serious concerns regarding the right to life and personal liberty guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.

According to Sinha, public roads are the primary workplace for delivery workers, yet the profession lacks formal recognition, safety protocols, and legal safeguards. As a result, workers frequently become victims of violence, harassment, and unjust treatment.

He further stated that the repeated nature of such attacks indicates that the issue extends beyond ordinary law and order concerns and reflects the absence of a dedicated policy and legal framework for delivery workers, who provide essential food and supplies to households every day.

In his appeal, Sinha urged the state government to immediately constitute a state-level committee comprising representatives from the Labour, Home, and Law departments along with civil society members and delivery workers.

He also demanded the creation of a welfare board for delivery workers to provide accident insurance, emergency compensation, legal aid, and social security benefits.

Additionally, he called for official recognition of public roads as legitimate workplaces for delivery personnel and sought administrative accountability for their safety.

The MLA further urged the government to ensure time-bound investigations into all incidents involving attacks or deaths of delivery workers and strict punitive action against those responsible.
