Agartala, March 16, 2026: Tripura’s Senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Monday strongly criticised the state budget for the current fiscal year, terming it a “completely directionless budget” that, according to him, fails to address the real issues faced by the people of the state.

Speaking to journalists, Roy Barman said that the common people of the state would not be satisfied with the budget as it lacks a clear roadmap for the overall development of the state. “This budget has no effective direction. Nothing substantial will be done through it,” he alleged while reacting to the budget presented in the Tripura Legislative Assembly.

The Congress legislator further claimed that one of the most pressing issues in the state—unemployment—has not been addressed properly in the budget. He said that despite unemployment being a major concern, the budget does not outline any concrete plan or new opportunities for job creation for the unemployed youth.

Roy Barman also alleged that the budget is largely confined to announcements without focusing on strengthening the state’s economy or ensuring employment generation. According to him, the absence of clear economic strategies would prevent the budget from bringing meaningful change for the people.

“The government has made several announcements, but there is no strong financial or developmental direction behind them,” he said.

The Congress MLA further remarked that the people of the state, particularly unemployed youths who are eagerly waiting for job opportunities, are unlikely to receive any real benefit from the budget. He added that without a focused plan for economic growth and employment, the budget would fail to meet the expectations of the public.
