Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, and former BJP spokesperson M. Kikon on Tuesday jointly announced the formation of a new political front focused on advancing the interests of Northeast India.

Addressing a press conference, Sangma said the leaders have “decided to work together for a distinct political entity for the Northeast” and have constituted a committee to draft its framework within the next 45 days. He clarified that the initiative is not intended to confront any existing political party but aims to create a unified platform representing the people of the region.

“The committee will reach out to other political parties as well,” Sangma said, adding that the protection of indigenous land rights would remain one of the core agendas. He also suggested that their respective parties might eventually merge to form a single political organisation.

Pradyot Manikya stated that the alliance seeks to “speak for our people with conviction and truth,” stressing that despite differences in political views, the focus is on unity and common purpose. “We are not here to pick fights with anyone but to fight for our rights,” he added.
