Agartala, August 02, 2025: As preparations intensify for National Handloom Day, Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has called for greater public involvement and departmental coordination to promote the handloom sector, describing it as a matter of pride and cultural identity.

“Handlooms are the pride of our Bengal – a symbol of art, culture, and uniqueness,” said Debbarma, while reviewing the upcoming National Handloom Day arrangements in Agartala on Saturday.

“The meeting held constructive discussions on the development of the state’s handloom industry, the welfare of our weavers, and how we can connect the younger generation with this rich tradition”, he added.

The Minister emphasized that National Handloom Day should not be treated as a mere annual celebration. “It is not just a one-day event—it is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to our culture, tradition, and local industry,” he stated.

Debbarma informed that all necessary instructions have been issued to ensure the active participation of handloom artists from various districts, including Agartala. “This time too, your active participation and cooperation is desirable to make the National Handloom Day program a success,” he appealed.

He concluded with a call to action: “Let us all together take this proud industry of ours a step further.”

The state is expected to witness exhibitions, demonstrations, and cultural programs celebrating the skill and spirit of local weavers on August 7.
