Agartala, June 30, 2025: Alleging a rapid deterioration of democratic values and law and order in Tripura, CPIM Politburo member and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, accusing it of creating an “undemocratic and abnormal” situation in the state.
“Democracy is being slaughtered day by day in Tripura. The BJP is killing democracy with its own hands,” Chaudhury said while briefing reporters. He claimed that the ruling party was not only suppressing the opposition but also eroding democratic rights within its own ranks.
Chaudhury alleged that the state government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, had failed to maintain law and order. “The law and order situation in Tripura has reached its lowest point, yet the Chief Minister is taking no effective steps. Instead, the BJP is trying to capitalize on terrorism to hold on to power,” he stated.
He further claimed that public discontent is rising. “It’s not just the opposition—most people in the state are saying law and order has collapsed,” said the Left leader.
Chaudhury also pointed out that the very people who brought the BJP to power in Tripura are disillusioned. “Even BJP supporters are not happy to witness the abnormal situation prevailing in the state,” he said.
