Agartala, April 06, 2026: Political activities have intensified ahead of the upcoming by-election to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency scheduled for April 9, with parties stepping up their campaign efforts across the region. On Monday, the CPI(M) organized a massive rally and public meeting in support of its candidate Amitabh Dutta, drawing significant participation from party workers and supporters.

The highlight of the programme was the presence of former Chief Minister and veteran CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar, who joined the march alongside the party’s candidate. The rally commenced around 11 am from the CPI(M) party office in the Noapara area of Dharmanagar and witnessed a large turnout, with red flags dominating the city’s main roads.

Senior party leaders, including CPI(M) District Secretary Abhijit Dey and Central Committee member Krishna Rakshit, along with several state and district-level leaders, took part in the procession. The rally passed through key parts of the town before culminating in a public meeting held on the northern bank of Kalidighi.

The meeting was presided over by Abhijit Dey, where Manik Sarkar addressed the gathering as the chief speaker. In his speech, he launched a strong attack on both the central and state governments led by the BJP, alleging deterioration in governance and rising challenges faced by common people.

Sarkar claimed that unemployment has reached alarming levels and alleged that the law and order situation in the state has significantly worsened. He further pointed to a shortage of staff in government offices and difficulties faced by citizens in accessing police services.

Other leaders present at the event included youth leader Amal Chakraborty, divisional secretary Ratan Roy, party MLAs, and several leaders from different organizational levels of the CPI(M).

Urging voters to support CPI(M) candidate Amitabh Dutta, Sarkar appealed for a decisive mandate in favour of the Left Front. As the by-election draws near, the political atmosphere in Dharmanagar continues to heat up, with all eyes now on the outcome at the ballot box.
