Agartala, May 28, 2025: In a significant move against the rising trend of private tuition by government teachers, the School Inspectorate in Belonia subdivision has issued show cause notices to 12 teachers from various schools following formal complaints from unemployed home tutors and concerned citizens of the Rajnagar block area.

According to officials, 11 of the 12 summoned teachers appeared at the School Inspectorate office today and signed a written pledge declaring that they are not engaged in any form of private tuition. The twelfth teacher, hailing from a school in Sepahijala district remained absent. Sources indicate that the education department has collected substantial evidence against all 12 teachers.

The allegations primarily stem from multiple schools in the Rajnagar block, including Sonapur Class XII School, Barpathari Class XII School, Haripur SB School, Manpathar Secondary School, Azgar Rahmanpur Higher Secondary School, Nasirnagar Higher Secondary School and Bagan Bari Higher Secondary School.

Despite a standing directive from the state education department banning government teachers from conducting private tuition, the practice continues across the Belonia subdivision. Complainants claim that several teachers are exploiting school hours by signing attendance registers and then leaving to conduct paid tuition sessions at home or in private institutes.

“The rule is clear—government teachers cannot engage in private tuition. But unfortunately, some are openly violating this. A committee exists at the district and subdivision levels to monitor this, yet there has been little to no action,” said a local unemployed home tutor.

When questioned, the School Inspector confirmed the allegations: “Yes, there are reports that some teachers are involved in private tuition. We will investigate this thoroughly through the committee.”

Interestingly, while the accused teachers denied engaging in tuition themselves, they acknowledged that several colleagues continue to do so despite the ban.

Locals have expressed frustration over the inaction of the School Education Department, despite repeated complaints. “This education business by government teachers is hurting both the unemployed tutors and the quality of teaching in schools,” said a resident of Rajnagar.
