Tripura’s Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar has reported a significant improvement in the state’s law and order situation, with a notable decline in crime rates and road fatalities. According to the DGP, the crime rate has fallen by 8-10% this year compared to the previous year.

The state has also seen a substantial reduction in road accidents, with a 30% decline in fatalities recorded in 2025 (as of June) compared to the same period last year. The number of deaths in road accidents has decreased from 126 in 2024 to 88 this year.

In addition to the improvement in law and order, the state’s law enforcement agencies have also registered significant success in the fight against drugs. There has been a 10% increase in seizures of contraband items this year, with the amount of seized items valued at Rs 20.20 crore, up from Rs 18 crore last year.

The DGP’s assertion comes after Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Asish Kumar Saha alleged that the law and order situation in the state was deteriorating. Saha had met the DGP on Monday, seeking his intervention to improve the situation following a series of attacks on party MLA, leaders, and workers.

Despite the opposition’s allegations, the DGP remains optimistic about the state’s law and order situation, stating that the figures indicate a gradual improvement. The law enforcement agencies are working to further improve the situation and maintain public safety.
