Agartala, April 8, 2026: A differently-abled minor who had gone missing during a wedding visit in North Tripura was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday, after his body was recovered from a water body in Chandpur under Laxminagar Gram Panchayat, triggering concern and tension in the area.
The deceased was identified as Billal Uddin, a resident of Kathaltali Barabari in Assam’s Sribhumi district.
According to family members, Billal had travelled to Laxminagar in North Tripura with his mother on April 5 to attend a wedding ceremony at a relative’s house. The wedding took place on April 6, when the minor reportedly went missing from the venue under unexplained circumstances.
After an extensive search failed to trace him, the family lodged a missing person complaint at Churaibari Police Station on April 7.
Local residents spotted Billal’s body floating in a water body located in a remote area on Wednesday morning and alerted police. A police team reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
The incident has raised several questions, with family members alleging foul play. They claimed that the differently-abled boy could not have reached such an inaccessible location on his own. They also pointed to injury marks on his nose and mouth and traces of bleeding, alleging that he may have been murdered before the body was dumped in the water body.
The family has demanded a fair and thorough investigation, urging authorities to identify those responsible and ensure strict punishment.
The incident has caused widespread sensation in the locality, with residents expressing concern over the circumstances surrounding the minor’s death.
