Agartala, April 03, 2026: In a major step towards modernizing healthcare services, the Tripura government has initiated the implementation of the Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS), aiming to make medical services more transparent, efficient, and accessible to all sections of society.

The ambitious digital initiative is being rolled out across district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, rural hospitals, and primary health centres. With the introduction of QR code-based systems, patients will be able to quickly generate outpatient department (OPD) tickets and access their health information seamlessly, reducing waiting time and improving service delivery.

The IHMIS project seeks to ensure that even marginalized communities receive modern, technology-driven healthcare services. Once fully implemented, every citizen will have a digital health record, enabling doctors to access previous treatment details instantly across government health facilities.

A high-level review meeting held on April 2 witnessed the presence of senior officials including Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Health Director Dr. Debashree Debbarma, State Mission Director of ABDM Dr. G. Sharath Naik, and other key stakeholders. During the meeting, strict instructions were issued to ensure there are no lapses in implementing the project effectively. Officials emphasized the need for coordinated efforts, proper resource arrangement, and active participation of doctors and healthcare staff.

Notably, an MoU was signed on March 30 with Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited for the implementation of the system.

The project is integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, under which every citizen will receive an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID. This will facilitate paperless services, including online registration, e-prescriptions, and streamlined hospital processes.

Additionally, telemedicine services are being strengthened under IHMIS, enabling patients in remote areas to consult specialists at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital without the need for physical travel.

Officials expressed confidence that the initiative will significantly improve healthcare accessibility and efficiency, marking a new era of digital healthcare in Tripura.
