The iconic Durand Cup, India’s oldest and most celebrated football tournament, is set to make a grand return to Imphal as the 134th edition’s Imphal leg begins at the historic Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. Organised by the Indian Army in close collaboration with the Government of Manipur, the tournament is expected to ignite football fever across the region with high-octane matches and passionate fanfare.
In the wake of last year’s devastating floods, the Khuman Lampak Stadium has been fully restored to its former glory through the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Extensive preparations, including pitch restoration and logistical upgrades, have been carried out to ensure top-tier facilities for both players and spectators.
This edition will feature four renowned teams — TRAU FC, NEROCA FC, the Indian Navy Football Team, and Real Kashmir FC — competing in the group stage. The tournament will kick off on 30 July with a high-stakes local derby between TRAU FC and NEROCA FC. Subsequent matches will be played on 1, 4, 7, 10 and 12 August, culminating in what promises to be a fiercely contested group phase.
In a move that raises the stakes, this year’s tournament will reward top individual performers with brand-new SUVs. The Golden Boot for the top scorer, the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper, and the Golden Ball for the best player will be awarded to three outstanding talents who shine on the field.

The people of Manipur have already shown overwhelming enthusiasm, as evident during the trophy showcase on 10 July. With memories of the electrifying 2022 edition still fresh, Khuman Lampak is once again expected to come alive with chants, colours and a shared sense of pride. Fans from across the state and beyond are preparing to fill the stands and support their teams in what is set to be a thrilling celebration of Indian football.
The return of the Durand Cup to Imphal not only reinforces Manipur’s pivotal role in the national football scene but also highlights the power of sport to unite, inspire and celebrate community resilience.
