Shillong, May 29: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has confirmed that a search operation is underway to locate a newlywed couple from Madhya Pradesh who went missing during their honeymoon in Sohra, also known as Cherrapunjee, a popular tourist destination in Meghalaya. The couple’s rented bike was found abandoned on the main road, suggesting they may have ventured into one of the steep hiking trails nearby.

Sangma stated that the police force, administration, and local community are working together 24/7 to find the couple. “We are using all possible technologies available with us to help us in our search,” he said, acknowledging the challenges posed by the pre-monsoon season and heavy rainfall in the area.

The Chief Minister praised the commitment of the villagers, who have joined the search operation with full dedication, treating the missing tourists as members of their own community. “Every village in the area has offered help, working alongside officials without rest,” Sangma said, assuring that all possible measures are being taken to locate the couple.

Sangma has been personally monitoring the situation, receiving updates from the authorities and maintaining communication with his counterpart in Madhya Pradesh and the Home Minister’s office. He expressed hope that the search would yield results soon, reflecting the spirit of hospitality and community support that defines Sohra’s treatment of tourists.
