Eight Militants Of Banned Outfits Arrested For Extortion In Manipur

Security forces arrested eight militants belonging to four different proscribed outfits for their involvement in extortion and other criminal activities during coordinated operations in Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur districts on Sunday, police said on Monday.

Five active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) — identified as M. Premkumar Singh (28), Yambem Shital Singh (39), Sorokhaibam Inaoton Singh (38), Khongbantabam Inaocha Devi (52), and Oinam Naoba Singh (18) — were apprehended from various locations across the three districts. They were allegedly involved in extortion, firing incidents, kidnapping, and illegal possession of arms. A 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine and one live round were recovered from them.

In a separate operation, police arrested Heisnam Bobo Singh (37), an active member of the KCP (Taibanganba), from his residence at Haobam Marak in Imphal West. He was reportedly engaged in extortion and had served monetary demands to schools in the valley area.

Another operative of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Sorokhaibam Rohit Meitei (24), was arrested from Itham Thongkhong in Imphal East district.

Additionally, Nepram Hari Meitei (19), an active member of KCP (Noyon), was apprehended from a farm near his residence at Lamlai Chingkhu in Imphal East.

All arrested individuals are currently in custody, and further investigation is underway.
